Christine Fry Burns '66 inducted into Marietta College's Hall of Honor

Crystal Beach, Florida resident honored during Marietta College's Homecoming

Marietta, Ohio (10/26/2017) — Dr. Christine Fry Burns '66 of Crystal Beach, Florida, was inducted into the Marietta College Hall of Honor during the College's homecoming festivities from Oct. 19-22.

The Hall of Honor is the highest honor any Marietta College alumni can receive from the institution.

Burns, who served in both the U.S. Air Force (1976-84) and U.S. Army (1984-97), is a successful eye surgeon and clinical instructor at the University of South Florida in Tampa. After serving as the Assistant Chief of Ophthalmology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, from 1984-86, Burns entered reserve status and officially retired in 1997.

Following her tour of duty with the U.S. Army, Burns established a pediatric ophthalmology practice in Florida, where she continues to practice in two locations - Specialty Eye Care in Palm Harbor and Suncoast Eye Center in Hudson.

During her time in the military, Burns served on the staffs at multiple hospitals, including the USAF Hospital at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, Audie Murphy Veterans Administration Hospital in San Antonio and the USAF Hospital in Wiesbaden, West Germany.

Burns served on the Marietta College Board of Trustees from 1999-2011, is a member of the Erwin Academy and Legacy Society, as well as a reunion volunteer. Burns and her husband, George '66, who live in Hudson, Florida, both earned their medical degrees from Albany Medical College in New York.

Burns received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biology, while earning Phi Beta Kappa honors. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority, performed with the music department and worked at the student newspaper, The Marcolian.

Located in Marietta, Ohio, at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, Marietta College is a four-year liberal arts college. Tracing its roots to the Muskingum Academy begun in 1797, the College was officially chartered in 1835. Today Marietta College serves a body of 1,200 full-time students. The College offers 45 majors and has been listed among Barron's Best Buys in College Education and Peterson's Competitive Colleges, and has been recognized as one of the top regional comprehensive colleges by U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review, as well as one of the nation's best by Forbes.com.
