$150K grant provides a tuition-free bridge to an Ohio teaching career for veterans and military personnel
Online program designed for those who already hold a bachelor's degree
Marietta, OH (07/09/2025) — Active-duty service members, veterans, and their spouses who already hold a bachelor's degree can transition to a teaching career through Marietta College's Military Bridges to Careers pathway to teaching licensure. Now, a $150,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce provides full tuition funds for this group to pursue the College's online Bridges to Teaching program. The program builds on the bachelor's degree with essential education courses that qualify the student for an Ohio teaching license upon completion of the program.
Grant funds provide up to 11 eligible students who intend to teach in Ohio with a full-tuition scholarship. Applications are currently being accepted for a mid-August start, with additional start dates each semester. The program takes an individual approach to bridging to a teaching career, with strong faculty mentorship from beginning to end. Program flexibility means each student's path is specific to their past education and current circumstances. Required education courses build on content completed during the bachelor's degree. All courses are delivered online and asynchronously, so students can view course content and work toward posted deadlines on their own schedule during the semester the course is offered.
The flexibility of time and place is ideal for active-duty service members. Veterans of any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, members of the National Guard or Reserves and the spouses of individuals from any of these areas are also eligible for the scholarships if they meet admission requirements.
Whether a student's dream is to teach grades 7 through 12 in a selected license content area or to teach grades 4 through 9 in two selected license content areas, a faculty mentor is there to help explore the options and requirements. There is also an option to prepare to teach grades Kindergarten through 12 Special Education for students with mild to moderate needs. Graduates of the program will be licensed to teach in the state of Ohio-with credentials that are transferable to most other states across the U.S.
The program averages 20-30 semester credit hours, or 8-10 courses, depending on the area of licensure and the courses completed during the bachelor's degree. Tuition cost is $495 per credit hour.
