Students, employees volunteering for Make a Difference Day

Annual fall event begins at 9 a.m., Saturday, October 28th

Marietta, Ohio (10/16/2017) — More than 100 Marietta College students and employees will participate in the annual Make a Difference Day activities from 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Oct. 28th.

About a dozen projects are planned, but according to Maribeth Saleem-Tanner, Director of Civic Engagement, not all of them will occur on Oct. 28th.

"Make a Difference Day projects at Marietta College put first-year students in community leadership roles right away," she said. "This day of service is really a partnership between students in Leadership 101 and our phenomenal network of community partners."

She said community partners serve as mentors and co-educators throughout the process.

"We also have members from all parts of the campus community, including students in the Physician Assistant Program, Fine Arts and Student Government Association, as well as faculty and staff, who take initiative to organize groups, volunteer, and make the day a success every year."

Some of the projects being organized as part of Make a Difference Day are:

  • Washington County Homeless Project
  • Marietta in Bloom
  • Betsey Mills Club
  • Ely Chapman
  • Marietta College Field Station
  • Live Healthy Kids/COMCorps
  • The Castle
  • Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Haunted Hermann

All students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the College's fall semester day of service. Everyone should meet in the Andrews Hall Great Room at 8:30 a.m. for volunteer registration, donuts, coffee and project assignments.
