Ryan Whitnable receives Outstanding Young Alumnus award

Dundee, Michigan resident honored during Marietta College's Homecoming

Marietta, Ohio (10/26/2017) — Ryan Whitnable '11 of Dundee, Michigan, was named the 2017 Outstanding Young Alumnus during Marietta College's homecoming festivities from Oct. 19-22.

Whitnable, who assists Marietta College as an Admission volunteer, is an internal auditor with Dana Holdings Corp. and the founder of This Week in Great Lakes Basketball podcast, received the honor on Saturday, Oct. 21, during the MCAA Awards Ceremony.

Prior to joining Dana, Whitnable worked in the banking industry and gained manufacturing experience with Simonton Windows. He currently objectively reviews Dana's business processes globally and across all business units, evaluates the efficacy of risk management procedures, protects against fraud and theft of the organization's assets, ensures the organization is complying with relevant laws and statutes, and makes recommendations on how to improve internal controls and governance processes.

He developed a passion for NCAA Division III athletics as a fan of Marietta's men's basketball team. This led to the podcast and eventually to starting the Great Lakes Invitational, which debuts in November with eight nationally prominent teams coming to Marietta College for two days. The tournament is also scheduled for 2018 and 2019.

Whitnable, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, played tennis for the Pioneers and met his wife, Erica Martin '11. Whitnable is also a 2007 graduate of Warren High School in Vincent, Ohio.

Located in Marietta, Ohio, at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, Marietta College is a four-year liberal arts college. Tracing its roots to the Muskingum Academy begun in 1797, the College was officially chartered in 1835. Today Marietta College serves a body of 1,200 full-time students. The College offers 45 majors and has been listed among Barron's Best Buys in College Education and Peterson's Competitive Colleges, and has been recognized as one of the top regional comprehensive colleges by U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review, as well as one of the nation's best by Forbes.com.
