Marietta to host economist Elaine Buckberg for Milton Friedman Lecture

Marietta, OH (01/03/2024) — Marietta College will host Dr. Elaine Buckberg, Senior Fellow at the Salata Institute for Climate Sustainability at Harvard University, as the speaker for the 40th annual Milton Friedman Lecture on Monday, January 29, at 7:00 p.m. in the Alma McDonough Auditorium.

Dr. Buckberg's lecture is titled "What Do EVs Mean for the Economy."

She previously served as Chief Economist of General Motors, providing economic analysis and advice on competitive and policy issues, including electric vehicle adoption. She has also held senior roles at The Brattle Group, the U.S. Treasury Department, NERA Economic Consulting, and Morgan Stanley.

Dr. Buckberg holds a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT and a B.A. from Yale.

The Milton Friedman Lecture Series brings renowned speakers to Marietta College each year to discuss economic issues and challenges. The lecture is free and open to the public.

She will also speak at the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley luncheon on Tuesday, January 30, at the Parkersburg Country Club. The event runs from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley is a non-partisan, non-political educational organization that was formed in 1982 as a result of a collaboration between Marietta College's Business and Economics Department, and a mix of business, civic, and educational leaders. The object of the Economic Roundtable is to promote an interest in and to enlighten its members and others in the community on important governmental, economic, and social issues. Since its inception, the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley has presented the Ohio Valley with more than 200 distinguished speakers who have enlightened and informed ERT members with their fascinating discussion on a broad scope of governmental, economic, and social issues.

The ERT speaker series is open to its members and their guests. The ERT's membership is open to all interested individuals at $35 a year. Located in Marietta, Ohio, at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, Marietta College is a four-year liberal arts college.
