Marietta comes in at No. 50 in annual Washington Monthly rankings

College consistently ranks among the best every year

by Tom Perry

Marietta, Ohio (08/28/2018) — Marietta College has placed 50th in a national ranking of baccalaureate colleges across the United States in regards to an institution's contribution to the public good.

The Washington Monthly 2018 College Guide and Rankings assesses institutions based on social mobility (graduation rate, first-generation performance, net price rank), research (expenditures and bachelors to Ph.D.) and service (encouraging students to give back to their country).

The survey considers each college's predicted and actual graduation rates; the percentage of low-income students receiving federal aid; the percentage of all students who join the Peace Corps or ROTC, or engage in other community service; and the number of faculty receiving significant awards and elected to the national academies.

The top five in the baccalaureate category were Cooper Union (New York), Goshen College (Indiana), College of the Ozarks (Missouri), Cedar Crest College (Pennsylvania) and Montana State University-Northern.

Regardless of methodology, Marietta has consistently placed among the best colleges and universities in regional and national rankings for more than 30 years.
