Marietta College recognized for efforts to encourage student voting
Marietta, Ohio (10/24/2022) — With the General Election just weeks away, Marietta College was recognized in Washington Monthly's 2022 Best Colleges for Student Voting Honor Roll.
"Being nationally ranked shows how much Marietta cares about a strong community," said Andrew Novak, Marietta College's Campus Vote Project Fellow. "This ranking method considered three broad categories: social mobility, research, and promoting public service. I think we have been checking the box on public service for years and doing very well at it. But, as always, the work is not over. I encourage students to vote on November 8th and the next time you see a voter registration table, whether you are a student, staff, or faculty, stop by, and we will register you."
This year's honor roll recognized 230 schools out of a total of 850 that received consideration.
To make the student voting honor roll, colleges and universities had to submit 2020 and 2022 action plans to the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. Schools also needed to have signed up to receive data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE), which calculates college-specific registration and voting rates. And they must have made their 2018 and 2020 NSLVE data available to the public. In short, schools must have shown a repeated commitment to increasing student voting-and have been transparent about the results.
