Marietta College receives $500,000 donation for student recruitment and support

Marietta, OH (01/24/2024) — Marietta College has received a generous $500,000 donation from Emeritus Trustee Joe Chlapaty H'10 and his wife, Linda, to support student recruitment and learning experiences, President Margaret L. Drugovich announced today.

The donation will provide funding for recruitment efforts, student support services, and student experiences over the coming months as the College prepares to welcome new students in fall 2024.

"Linda and I have believed in Marietta College for nearly 30 years when our son enrolled as a freshman," Mr. Chlapaty explained. "Keith benefitted from what I think all parents want for their children: a quality education and a great start on his future. We are proud to be able to help today's and tomorrow's Marietta students find their way at Marietta."

Dr. Drugovich added, "Joe and Linda Chlapaty understand the lifelong value of an engaging, high-quality college education. This generous gift will allow us to enhance the Marietta experience for both prospective and currently enrolled students. We are incredibly grateful for their generous ongoing support of Marietta College, for this particular gift, and for their partnership in making this great education a reality for so many students."

Joe and Linda's donation is the latest example of their longstanding commitment to Marietta College. They have contributed generously over the years to support the student experience, with a particular focus on scholarships, facilities, and athletics.

In addition to the $500,000 gift, the Chlapatys have provided an additional $5,000 to fund a celebration for current Marietta College students.

"The Chlapatys understand the importance of building relationships and community, and we are thankful for their support of this special event for our students," said Dr. Richard Danford, Vice President for Student Life and Diversity.

The gift also aligns with Marietta College's new strategic plan, Marietta Forward, which focuses on supporting students throughout their educational journey.

Located in Marietta, Ohio, at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, Marietta College is a four-year liberal arts college. Tracing its roots to the Muskingum Academy, which was founded in 1797, the College was officially chartered in 1835. Today, Marietta College serves a body of 1,200 full-time students. The College offers over 40 majors and is consistently ranked among the top regional comprehensive colleges by U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review. Marietta was selected seventh in the nation according to the Brookings Institution's rankings of colleges by their highest value added, regardless of major.
