Marietta College Psychology students present research in Chicago

Marietta, Ohio (06/05/2018) — Nine Marietta College undergraduate and graduate Psychology students recently traveled with faculty members to Chicago to present their research findings at the 90th annual meeting of the Mid-Western Psychological Association.

The students who attended were Ethan Bunnell '19 (Campbellsville, Kentucky), Emily Embrescia '18 (Northfield, Ohio), CJ Feipel '18 (Fort Wayne, Indiana), Megan Hendrich '18 (Ravenna, Ohio), Micayla Hupp '18 (Lowell, Ohio), Elizabeth Maynard '19 (Columbus, Ohio), Stephanie Monroe '19 (Zanesville, Ohio), Celeste Prince '19 (Hilliard, Ohio) and Brooke Stanley '18 (Parkersburg, West Virginia).

The students were accompanied by Psychology faculty members Alicia Doerflinger, Chris Klein and Mark Sibicky.

The three-day meeting had more than 3,500 attendees and consisted of more than 1,000 research presentations across a range of topics in psychological science. Students and faculty also attended conference workshops in statistics, research methods, the teaching of psychology and special topics for undergraduates sponsored by the honor society for students in Psychology (Psi Chi).

The students' research and travel were made possible, in part, by funding from the William Law Plankey Professorship of Marietta College.

While in Chicago, students and faculty also toured the Art Institute of Chicago, viewing several famous surrealist paintings influenced by the theories of Sigmund Freud. The tour of the Art Institute and a dinner afterward of Chicago deep-dish pizza was made possible by a grant from Marietta College's Hartel Fund. Student travel was funded, in part, by Graduate Council and faculty travel was supported by the Faculty Development Committee.

Located in Marietta, Ohio, at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, Marietta College is a four-year liberal arts college. Tracing its roots to the Muskingum Academy back in 1797, the College was officially chartered in 1835. Today Marietta College serves a body of 1,200 full-time students.
