Marietta, Ohio (08/26/2019) — Marietta College has placed 45th in a national ranking of colleges and universities across the United States in regards to an institution's contribution to the public good - up five spots from last year.

The Washington Monthly 2019 College Guide and Rankings assess institutions based on social mobility (graduation rate, first-generation performance, net price rank), research (expenditures and bachelors to Ph.D.) and promoting public service (encouraging students to give back to their country).

The survey considers universities' predicted and actual graduation rates; the percentage of low-income students receiving federal aid; the percentage of all students who join the Peace Corps or ROTC or engage in other community service; and the number of faculty receiving significant awards and elected to the national academies.

The top five in the Bachelor's College Rankings were Cooper Union (New York), Goshen College (Indiana), College of the Ozarks (Missouri), Hiram College and Brigham Young University-Idaho.

Marietta also ranked No. 238 in Washington Monthly's Best Bang for the Buck in the Midwest.

Regardless of methodology, Marietta has consistently placed among the best colleges and universities in regional and national rankings for more than 30 years.
