Marietta College Instructor Jordan Reed to present saxophone recital on April 25

by Tom Perry

Marietta, Ohio (04/15/2019) — Saxophonist Jordan Reed, an instructor in Marietta College's Department of Music, will be performing at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25, in the Alma McDonough Auditorium.

"This recital will feature the unusual combination of saxophone and double-neck guitar using effects and looping pedals," said Reed, who is also an instructor of jazz at Marietta College. "Comprised of all original music, the recital will be heavily rooted in improvisation and incorporate multimedia elements. Using harmonies and chord changes commonly found in Rock 'n' Roll and popular music, the goal of the group is to use sounds and forms that are in most popular and neo-classical music, but presented in a way that helps bridge the gap between both worlds."

The event is free and open to the public. The recital will also feature a duo called MMZ, comprised of a saxophone and a double neck guitar. Guitarist for the recital is Turner Matthews.

"Jordan joined our department four years ago and has been a great addition," said Marshall Kimball, Chairman of the Music Department. "His expertise and creative musical thinking are very refreshing and always enjoyable. Those attending this recital will be presented with a wonderful musical package to stretch their sense of what music can be."
