by Tom Perry

Marietta, Ohio (10/18/2023) — Earlier in October, Marietta College welcomed 51 high school students and faculty from seven area schools for the annual BIG Workshop focused on creative thinking skills.

The high school segment began at 8:30 a.m. in the Legacy Library with registration and breakfast. Students then participated in three hands-on, back-to-back activities from 9:00-11:50 a.m. aimed at enhancing creative abilities.

The activities were led by Marietta College faculty and staff as part of the larger BIG Workshop event happening that day. At noon, the high school cohort joined the general Workshop attendees for a luncheon and keynote speech.

Participating schools included Marietta High School, Morgan High School, Ravenswood High School, St. Marys High School, Tyler Consolidated High School, Waterford High School, and the Washington County Career Center. In total, 51 students, alongside their teachers, experienced the engaging workshop specifically tailored for high schoolers.

"Marietta College is committed to supporting creativity and innovation for students of all ages," said Dr. Jacqueline Khorassani, Senior Director of Entrepreneurship & Career Development. "We were thrilled to host this group of bright young students and provide an introduction to creative thinking and problem-solving."

Khorassani added, "Marietta College extends its gratitude to the Marietta Community Foundation, Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, and Morgan Community Foundation for their support of the high school segment of the BIG Workshop."

Located in Marietta, Ohio, at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, Marietta College is a four-year liberal arts college.
