HOBY ambassadors at Marietta College will host Super Summer Kick Off on June 10th

Area children are invited to attend the free event that helps get the summer going

Marietta, Ohio (06/01/2017) — High school students from the Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Program, which is conducting its annual Ohio South summit at Marietta College, will be facilitating the Super Summer Kick Off from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, June 10th.

It will be a day of educational, fun activities to help children start the summer break on the right foot. This is a service project for the HOBY group, and they are going to organize and run this event as part of their leadership development program. It is free and open to the public.

The event will be held at the Ely Chapman Education Foundation, 403 Scammel St., Marietta.

HOBY, a national organization dedicated to training young leaders, will conduct its 2017 Ohio South Seminar on Marietta's campus from June 7-11. Approximately 200 high school sophomores from around Ohio will participate. During the seminar, students will recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective and ethical leaders. Student participants, called HOBY Ambassadors, will hear from motivational speakers and participate in a community service project.

Hugh O' Brian, an American actor, started the seminar in 1958 with one goal: To seek out, recognize and develop leadership potential among the nation's youth. He wanted to teach students how to think, not what to think.

At the end of the seminar, ambassadors are challenged to complete 100 hours of volunteer work in their communities. HOBY has 70 seminars nationwide and HOBY ambassadors have performed more than 3 million hours of volunteer service.

The program does not promote any specific political party, religion or way of thinking - but it does work to develop critical thinking skills by actively involving participants in discussions and informal debate.
