Former Manhattan Institute senior fellow featured at College's Leadership Q&A

Oren Cass to speak on campus Tuesday, March 3rd

Marietta, Ohio (02/20/2020) — Oren Cass, a former Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, will be featured during a Leadership Q&A at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 3rd, in Marietta College's Alma McDonough Auditorium.

Cass will speak about "The Once and Future Worker: Ensuring Markets Deliver Widespread Prosperity." This event is free and open to the public. Cass, who recently started a think tank called American Compass, will also make a similar presentation at the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley at noon, Wednesday, March 4th, at the Marietta Country Club.

Cass' work at the Manhattan Institute was focused on strengthening the labor market addressed issues ranging from the social safety net and environmental regulation to trade and immigration to education and organized labor. His current work at American Compass is focused on redefining the economic orthodoxy that guides the nation's politics and public policy.

He also writes extensively on the nature and implications of climate change and on the process of formulating and evaluating public policy. Cass has written for publications including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, National Affairs and National Review, and he regularly speaks at universities and testifies before Congress.

His 2018 book, The Once and Future Worker: A Vision for the Renewal of Work in America, has been called "the essential policy book for our time" and "an unflinching indictment of the mistakes that Washington has made for a generation and continues to make today." Before joining the Manhattan Institute, he held roles as the domestic policy director for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign in 2012, as an editor of the Harvard Law Review, and as a management consultant in Bain & Company's Boston and New Delhi offices. He earned a B.A. in political economy from Williams College and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley is a non-partisan non-political educational organization that formed in 1982 as a result of a collaboration between the Business and Economics Department at Marietta College and a mix of business, civic and educational leaders. The object of the Economic Roundtable is to promote an interest in and to enlighten its members and others in the community on important governmental, economic, and social issues. Since its inception, the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley has presented the Ohio Valley with more than 200 distinguished speakers who have enlightened and informed ERT members with their fascinating discussion on a broad scope of governmental, economic and social issues.

The ERT's speaker series is open to its members and their guests. The ERT's membership is open to all interested individuals at $35 a year.
