ExxonMobil Foundation gives $55,923.30 to Marietta College
Marietta, Ohio (07/15/2019) — Marietta College announced today that it has received $55,923.30 from ExxonMobil and its subsidiary XTO Energy through the ExxonMobil Foundation's 2018 Educational Matching Gift Program.
Karen Matusic, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for XTO Energy, presented the check to Marietta College President Bill Ruud, along with Dr. Ben Ebenhack, Chair of Petroleum Engineering & Geology, Marietta student Julia Losco '21 (Wexford, Pennsylvania) and Leah Magyary, Director of Donor Relations and Advancement Services.
"We are so appreciative for the Marietta College alumni, parents and friends who show their support by making a donation each year through this wonderful program at ExxonMobil," Ruud said.
The ExxonMobil Foundation is the primary philanthropic arm of the Exxon Mobil Corp. The Foundation's contribution, representing the generosity of many alumni, friends and supporters of higher education, underscores a long-standing commitment to higher education that is the foundation for Marietta College's relationship with the ExxonMobil Corp. The 2018 gift increases the ExxonMobil Foundation's giving to a cumulative amount of $208,094.86 at Marietta.
In 2018-2019, ExxonMobil employees, retirees, directors and surviving spouses contributed to Marietta College, and their gifts were matched at a 3:1 ratio with the funds designated for unrestricted grants from the ExxonMobil Foundation. Although the contributions can be used for a wide variety of academic programs, colleges and universities are encouraged to designate a portion to math and science programs supporting student engagement. The program matches donor pledges 3:1 up to $7,500 to qualified colleges and universities in the United States, along with the American Indian College Fund, Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the United Negro College Fund.
While ExxonMobil's program is one of the most generous, more than 7,500 companies offer matching gift programs to their employees.
