by Tom Perry

Marietta, Ohio (01/17/2020) — Economist and journalist Dr. Allison Schrager will deliver the 36th annual Milton Friedman Lecture on Monday, February 3rd at Marietta College.

Schrager's talk on "Managing risk in an uncertain economy: What we can learn from surfers, studs and sex workers," begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Alma McDonough Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Schrager is a co-founder of LifeCycle Finance Partners, LLC, which is a risk advisory firm that develops innovative technology solutions to finance retirement.

Schrager diversified her career by working in finance, policy and media. She led retirement product innovation at Dimensional Fund Advisors and consulted to international organizations, including the OECD and IMF.

She has also been a regular contributor to the Economist, Reuters, and Bloomberg Businessweek. Her writing has also appeared in Playboy, Wired, and Foreign Affairs. Her book, "An Economist Walks into a Brothel," takes everything she learned about risk management and applies it to corners of the economy far from financial markets. She has a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University, currently teaches at New York University, and lives in New York City.

She will also be speaking the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley at noon, Tuesday, February 4th, at the Grand Pointe Convention Center in Vienna, West Virginia. Her topic there will be "Why knowing about risk is more critical than ever to understand economics."

The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley is a non-partisan non-political educational organization that formed in 1982 as a result of a collaboration between the Business and Economics Department at Marietta College and a mix of business, civic and educational leaders. The object of the Economic Roundtable is to promote an interest in and to enlighten its members and others in the community on important governmental, economic, and social issues.
