Artist Lisa McLymont's work to be featured at Marietta College's Gallery 310
'Signs of Life in the Substratum' on display starting October 22nd
Marietta, Ohio (10/13/2021) — The Marietta College Art Department is pleased to present "Signs of Life in the Substratum," a solo exhibition by Lisa McLymont on display in Gallery 310 from Friday, October 22nd through Tuesday, November 23rd.
The exhibition will begin with an artist reception from 5:00-6:30 p.m., Friday, October 22nd, in the Hermann Fine Arts Center. The artist will discuss the work in the exhibition starting at 6:00 p.m.
Based in Columbus, Ohio, McLymont is represented by Contemporary Art Matters Gallery, also in Columbus. In 2019, she was named one of Columbus Underground's Top 10 Artists. She has been in numerous exhibitions including Ohio Diaspora at Riffe Gallery, Art Unbound at Carnegie Gallery, and Art for Life at the Columbus Museum of Art. Additionally, she has been reviewed and interviewed by The Columbus Dispatch, Columbus Alive, PBS American Portrait, and many others for her portrait paintings as well as her community and public art projects.
McLymont describes her work as a continued look at Ohio's history. "In addition to burying their elders, Natives used the land to record stories and display knowledge in their alignment of elements with the solstices to note the passing of time and the seasons." She asks the important questions of who "owns" land and how do we keep it healthy and rich.
Gallery 310 is located on the third floor of the Hermann Fine Arts Center at Marietta College. Gallery hours are 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Thursday and by appointment at gallery310@marietta.edu. Gallery 310 observes all Marietta College holidays and breaks.
