Marietta's Grace Johnson shares expertise on remote work, AI in accounting education

Marietta, OH (06/05/2024) — Grace Johnson, McCoy Professor of Accounting and Management at Marietta College, was a featured presenter at the prestigious North American Accounting Society annual meeting, which was held April 10-12 in Chicago.

Johnson's research presentation, titled "Leaving Home: What Accounting Leaders Managing Hybrid and Remote Work Environments Can Learn from the Expat Experience," explored the parallels between the experiences of expatriate employees and those working in hybrid or fully remote situations. Her paper offered recommendations for accounting professionals on enhancing the work-from-home experience by applying best practices for managing expatriate staff.

Due to scheduling conflicts, Johnson delivered her research presentation virtually to the conference attendees. The work compared the challenges faced by both groups in areas such as social integration, maintaining engagement, and overcoming personal obstacles.

In addition to her research presentation, Johnson led a panel discussion titled "How AI is Altering Learning and Teaching in the Accounting Major." Joined by colleagues from Meredith College and Missouri State University, the interactive session examined the growing influence of artificial intelligence on accounting curricula and classroom instruction.

A longtime active member, Johnson also serves on the Board of Directors for the North American Accounting Society, an organization she has been involved with for nearly 30 years.

Located in Marietta, Ohio, at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, Marietta College is a four-year liberal arts college.
