Marietta recognized by ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge

Marietta, OH (09/10/2024) — Tuesday's Pop, Popcorn, & the Presidency livestream event of the Presidential Debate is among a number of events being coordinated by Marietta College students to support voter engagement across campus.

The non-partisan event is hosted by Campus Vote Project Fellows Maya Suarez and Abby Scott in collaboration with two student organizations: the College Republicans and the College Democrats. In October, the Student Government Association is organizing a Meet the Candidates event, as well as with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN), an organization that recently awarded Marietta College the Bronze Seal for endeavors related to the 2022 Midterm Elections.

"With it being a big election year, we've really ramped up our voter engagement since the 2022 Mid-Terms. It's exciting to see our College Republicans, College Democrats, Student Government Association, Campus Vote Project, and ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge collaborate on a number of non-partisan election activities this year, including organizing a Debate Watch party this evening! They are also coordinating a Meet-the-Candidates event and plan to manage student travel to the polls on Election Day," said Jason Nulton, Community Engagement Coordinator in the McDonough Center for Leadership and Business at Marietta College.

ALL IN recognized Marietta for its nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts that fostered high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections. The College received the Bronze Seal, reflecting its commitment to ensuring that nonpartisan democratic engagement is a defining feature of campus life. The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge empowers colleges and universities to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement. Marietta was recognized alongside more than 500 campuses using data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) out of Tufts University, which found that colleges and universities had the second-highest voter turnout among students in a midterm election since NSLVE began measuring this data. "The ALL IN Awards were created to celebrate nonpartisan democratic engagement and the outstanding campus voter registration and turnout rates achieved by our ALL IN campuses. Ahead of the 2024 elections, ALL IN campuses are ready to build on the momentum from 2022 to ensure their communities are ready to make an even bigger impact this fall," said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. "ALL IN is proud to celebrate and honor top-performing campuses, like Marietta College, who demonstrate that nonpartisan student voter engagement is possible and effective."
