Marietta College places in Top 20 of Washington Monthly rankings

Marietta, Ohio (09/01/2021) — Marietta College has placed 20th in a national ranking of colleges and universities across the United States in regards to an institution's contribution to the public good. Marietta is up 42 spots from last year's rankings.

The Washington Monthly 2021 College Guide and Rankings assess institutions based on social mobility (graduation rate, first-generation performance, net price rank), research (expenditures and bachelors to Ph.D.) and providing opportunities for public service (encouraging students to give back to their country).

The survey considers universities' predicted and actual graduation rates; the percentage of low-income students receiving federal aid; the percentage of all students who join the Peace Corps or ROTC, or engage in other community services; and the number of faculty receiving significant awards and elected to the national academies.

"Marietta College is consistently ranked among the best of the best because of our outstanding faculty, staff and students," said Scot Schaeffer, Vice President for Enrollment Management. "Embracing a student-centered approach to higher education, our faculty and staff consistently find innovative ways to add value to our students' college experiences. While I believe this ranking system tells us much about what is actually going on here, it also tells employers and others that Marietta College provides its students with an exceptional educational experience and that they are prepared for their future after college."

Marietta also ranked No. 66 in Washington Monthly's Best Bang for the Buck in the Midwest. The schools on this exclusive list are ranked according to how well they help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.

Regardless of methodology, Marietta has consistently placed among the best colleges and universities in regional and national rankings for more than 35 years.
