Marietta College named a 2019 Great College to Work For
College excels in 10 of 12 categories as a repeat selection
Marietta, Ohio (09/17/2019) — For a second consecutive year, Marietta College is being recognized as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new survey by The Great Colleges to Work For program.
Now in its 12th year, The Great Colleges to Work For results were released today in a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education and they are based on a survey of 236 colleges and universities. In all, 85 of the 236 institutions achieved "Great College to Work For" recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium and large institutions, with Marietta College included among the small universities with 500 to 2,999 students.
Marietta College won honors in 10 of the 12 categories this year (compared to three last year):
- Collaborative Governance
- Professional/Career Development Programs
- Teaching Environment
- Compensation/Benefits
- Facilities, Work space and Security
- Job Satisfaction
- Work-Life Balance
- Confidence in Senior Leadership
- Respect and Appreciation
- Tenure Clarity and Process
"We are very excited to be included on the Great College to Work For list again and we are thrilled about the overall improvement we had in each category," said Bill Ruud, President and Professor of Management at Marietta. "We have enjoyed a positive shift in our campus culture, and everyone at Marietta College has helped make this a great place to work."
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
"The institutions recognized in this year's Great Colleges to Work For program don't wait for problems to occur to pay attention to their people," said Rich Boyer, Senior Consultant at ModernThink. "Conversely, they're intentional (and successful!) in being good stewards of their institutions' cultures and shaping the day-to-day experience of their faculty and staff to the ultimate benefit of their students."
The Great Colleges to Work For is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. For more information and to view all the results of the survey, visit the Great College Program website at www.greatcollegesprogram.com.
