Marietta College Art Professor named juror for 2023 OAC Biennial Juried Exhibition

Marietta, Ohio (01/06/2023) — Marietta College's Jolene Powell has been selected to serve as one of three jurors for the Ohio Arts Council's Biennial Juried Exhibition in 2023.

"I am thrilled to be serving as a juror for the OAC Biennial Juried Exhibition because it allows me the chance to be part of a larger conversation about artwork in Ohio, and to help showcase the work of talented artists in the state," said Powell, McCoy Professor of Art and Director of Gallery 310. "Plus, the experience allows me to see artwork and meet artists I can invite to the Art Department and Gallery 310."

Online submissions will be accepted from February 6th through April 7th for the 2023 Biennial Juried Exhibition, and the exhibition dates are October 28, 2023, through January 5, 2024, in the OAC Riffe Gallery.

Cat Sheridan, Riffe Gallery Director, selected Powell and the other jurors - Dr. Melissa Crum and Yusuf Dubois Abdul Lateef.

"A lot of thought goes into the selection of the three jurors for each Biennial. We definitely like to think about the potential chemistry of the three jurors ensuring there is diversity in points of view, intersections, and differences in art expertise and interests," Sheridan said. "We selected (Powell) for many reasons. (She) brings great geographic diversity to the group, (her) work as the director of Gallery 310, which expands the opportunity and reach of great artists/art and concepts reaching folks at the College and Marietta community."

Powell is an established artist with an extensive exhibition record and is represented by Brandt-Roberts Gallery in Columbus. In 2021, she received Marietta College's Innovative Teaching Award; in 2018, she received the Edward G. Harness Outstanding Educator Award.
