Brewers Association's Chief Economist selected for Marietta College's Friedman Lecture on Feb. 2

Dr. Bart Watson to speak about 'The Economics of Small Brewers'

Marietta, Ohio (01/19/2021) — Dr. Bart Watson, Chief Economist at the Brewers Association, will deliver the 37th annual Milton Friedman Lecture via Zoom on Tuesday, February 2nd.

Watson will speak about "The Economics of Small Brewers," at 7:00 p.m. Anyone interested in the free event should sign up at the Zoom webinar registration link. This event is also part of the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley's February meeting.

Watson has been the Chief Economist at the Brewers Association since 2013. He leads the Association's statistical and economic work, including industry and consumer surveys, economic analysis and market research. He is a leading expert on the economics of small breweries and the beverage alcohol industry, and has provided expert testimony in numerous statehouses around the country, as well as having his work cited on the floor of the U.S. Senate. He is frequently cited in leading publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.

Prior to his role with the Brewers Association, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa and a Lecturer at the University of California-Berkeley. He holds a Ph.D. from UC-Berkeley and is a Certified Cicerone.

The Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley is a non-partisan non-political educational organization that formed in 1982 as a result of a collaboration between the Business and Economics Department at Marietta College and a mix of business, civic and educational leaders. The object of the Economic Roundtable is to promote an interest in and to enlighten its members and others in the community on important governmental, economic, and social issues. Since its inception, the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley has presented the Ohio Valley with more than 160 distinguished speakers who have enlightened and informed ERT members with their fascinating discussion on a broad scope of governmental, economic and social issues.
