Marietta College welcomes new students at annual Matriculation

Marietta, OH (08/21/2023) — Marietta College officially ushered in its newest class on Friday, August 18, with New Student Move-In Day and the traditional Matriculation ceremony.

Over 350 first-year students arrived on campus in the morning, greeted by volunteers ready to assist with unloading belongings into residence halls. The move-in day kicks off the "H.O.M.E." orientation program, which includes activities like meeting advisers, whitewater rafting, and tips on managing college life.

The highlight of the day was the formal Matriculation ceremony, marking the new students' official enrollment as Marietta Pioneers. Attended by families, faculty, and staff, the event featured a procession of faculty in academic robes, each student signing the Matriculation book and receiving a commemorative poster.

President Margaret L. Drugovich reflected on the promise of the incoming class, while encouraging them to make the most of Marietta's supportive community. Provost Dr. Kathleen Poorman Dougherty delivered a charge to the faculty, as well as the students.

The students also heard from Student Body President Maria Cipro '25.

Students also gathered for an official class photo immediately after Matriculation, and the day concluded with a block party that welcomed the students into their new home away from home. Marietta College is thrilled to begin a new academic year with this dynamic group of Pioneers.
