Marietta College students place fifth at 2023 Petro Bowl

Marietta, Ohio (03/29/2023) — Four students from Marietta College's Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) recently placed fifth in the North American 2023 Petro Bowl.

The strong showing allowed the team to advance to the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) in San Antonio, Texas, in Fall 2023.

Marietta's team consisted of Alec Bollinger '23 (Sycamore, Ohio), Austin Leporis '23 (Marshallville, Ohio), Trevor McNeill '25 (Fombell, Pennsylvania), and Marcus Terry '23 (McCutchenville, Ohio). The team won four consecutive rounds before losing in the quarterfinals. However, they dominated the loser's bracket and finished alongside the top teams in North America.

Located in Marietta, Ohio, at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, Marietta College is a four-year liberal arts college. Tracing its roots to the Muskingum Academy back in 1797, the College was officially chartered in 1835. Today Marietta College serves a body of 1,200 full-time students. The College offers more than 50 majors and is consistently ranked as one of the top regional comprehensive colleges by U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review. Marietta was selected seventh in the nation according to the Brookings Institution's rankings of colleges by their highest value added, regardless of major.
