Marietta College places in Top 20 of Washington Monthly rankings for second consecutive year

Marietta, Ohio (08/29/2022) — Marietta College has placed 19th in a national ranking of colleges and universities across the United States regarding an institution's contribution to the public good. Marietta is up one spot from last year's rankings.

The Washington Monthly 2022 College Guide and Rankings assess institutions based on social mobility (graduation rate, first-generation performance, net price rank), research (expenditures and bachelor's to Ph.D.), and providing opportunities for public service (encouraging students to give back to their country).

The survey considers a university's predicted and actual graduation rates; the percentage of low-income students receiving federal aid; the percentage of all students who join the Peace Corps or ROTC, or engage in other community service; and the number of faculty receiving significant awards and elected to the national academies.

"We are pleased to be once again ranked among the best of the four-year bachelor's colleges," said Scot Schaeffer, Vice President for Enrollment Management. "Our mission of embracing a student-centered approach to higher education, our faculty and staff's ability to consistently find innovative ways to add value to our students' college experiences are key components to our success."

Marietta also ranked No. 120 in Washington Monthly's Best Bang for the Buck in the Midwest. The schools on this exclusive list are ranked according to how well they help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.

Regardless of methodology, Marietta has consistently placed among the best colleges and universities in regional and national rankings for more than 35 years.
